Rabies

Rabies is a viral disease transmitted through the bite or saliva of an infected animal. It affects the central nervous system, causing brain inflammation. Symptoms include fever, hallucinations, and paralysis. Immediate post-exposure vaccination is crucial, as rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear.

 

 

 

 

When to get vaccinated: 5 weeks before travelling to ensure dosing can be completed

 

Schedule: three doses (0, 7 days, 21-28 days)

 

Accelerated course: four doses (0, 3 days, 7 days, 12 months)

 

Boosters: vaccine will cover for 10 years

 

Administration: injection in the upper arm 

 

Side effects: fever and pain at injection site
