Japenese Encephalitis

Japanese encephalitis is a viral brain infection transmitted by mosquitoes, prevalent in Asia and the Western Pacific. Symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, and neurological issues. Severe cases can cause permanent neurological damage or death. Vaccination and mosquito control are key preventive measures.

 

 

 

 

When to get vaccinated: protection starts 7 days after the last vaccine (5 weeks after the initial vaccine)

 

Schedule: two doses (0, 28 days)

 

Accelerated course: two doses (0, 7 days; 18-65 years)

 

Boosters: one vaccine will cover for a year

 

Administration: injection in the upper arm 

 

Side effects: fever, upset stomach and pain at injection site
